RC Police looking into burglaries and thefts

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Police are investigating multiple reports of vehicle burglaries and thefts.

Shortly before 4 a.m. on June 28, police received multiple reports of juveniles seen attempting to burglarize vehicles parked in the areas of Cruz Drive and Mountain View Road. Police arrived on the scene and searched the area.

While in the area, police heard an alarm coming from the area of Jackson Boulevard. They were able to trace the alarm to the Sinclair gas station at 2313 Jackson Boulevard.

On arrival at the address, police saw damage to the front door with several items from the store strewn about outside. A review of security footage from the store showed four juvenile males breaking the glass on the front door with rocks and entering the store before taking multiple items. The males then fled the store on foot. One of the juveniles was wearing a red backpack. The same male had been seen attempting to burglarize cars in the area before burglarizing the convenience store.

Police continued to search the area and located a juvenile male who matched the suspect with the red backpack walking in the area of The Gap.

He was detained and has since been placed in the juvenile justice system.

Residents who live near Cruz Drive and Mountain View Road are advised to check their cars and any outdoor cameras for suspicious activity between the times of 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. on June 28.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police at 605-394-4131.
