RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City woman convicted on the charge of Possession of a Stolen Firearm has been sentenced.
Danielle Coats, 23, was in possession of multiple stolen firearms between August and September of 2023. The firearms had been stolen from various licensed firearms dealers in Rapid City by another person.
The stolen firearms included:
a Beretta 12-gauge shotgun
a Benelli 12-gauge shotgun
a USA Military Surplus .30 caliber rifle
a Stoeger 12-gauge shotgun
While in possession of the firearms, Coats learned that law enforcement suspected the guns were likely at Coats’ residence. In response, Coats had others move the guns from her residence to a family member’s home, then directed her associates to move or dispose of the guns to prevent police from recovering them.
Coats was indicted for Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Tampering and Accessory After the Fact by a federal grand jury in February of 2024. She pleaded guilty on April 26, 2024 and was sentenced on July 12, 2024.
Coats was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $7,169.97 in restitution.
Following her sentencing, Coats was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
