RCAS releases its 2021-2022 back to school plan

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Area School system has released its back to school plan for 2021-2022.

Dubbed the Ready, Set, Start plan, the district says it’s to help create a safe learning environment for both students and staff.

Under the plan, masking is not required, but the district’s health team will monitor COVID-19 data daily and highly recommend masks be worn if cases escalate quickly.

The plan does not include a large-scale distance learning program. Dr. Simon says all the spots in the small virtual learning pilot program have already been filled.

The plan also instructs the RCAS nursing team to continue to do contact tracing. Nurses will also continue to offer COVID-19 testing to staff and students once school begins.

The district plans to release COVID-19 cases on a weekly basis.
