RCAS to move to Level 1 at middle and high schools next week

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Starting Monday, all Rapid City Area Schools will move to Level 1, which is four days of in-person learning.

The middle and high schools are the latest to make the move as recommended by Superintendent Lori Simon after elementary schools transitioned to level 1 last week.

Despite continued high numbers of cases in Pennington County, Dr. Simon says they are seeing very little evidence of any cases as a result of time in school.

Monday saw 34 active cases among students and eight among staff, while as of 4 p.m. Wednesday the district reports 37 active cases among students and seven among staff.

Simon also says moving to Level 1 at this time will allow for solid instruction between teachers and students, while also attending to their social and emotional well-being.
