STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper girls basketball team had 30 turnovers and shot just 17-percent from the floor in a lopsided loss to Red Cloud Thursday night.
The Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the first quarter and led 29-10 at the half en-route to a 73-29 dismantling of the Scoopers.
Red Cloud had three players in double-figures, led by Stevi Fallis’ 15 points.
The Lady Crusaders shot 43-percent from the floor and their smothering defense kept the Scoopers under 30 points.
Sharissa Haas added 14 points for Red Cloud.
Kaylee Whatley led Sturgis with 9 points.
In the boys game, Sturgis led the Crusaders after one 15-13, but would lose that lead for good in the second quarter as Red Cloud took a 32-27 lead in to the halftime locker room.
The Scoopers would get to within six in the fourth quarter, but the Crusaders would pull away for a 66-48 victory.
Jarron Big Horn led Red Cloud with 25 points, including hitting on four 3-pointers.
Marcus Myrick and Ryder Ladner led Sturgis with 13 points apiece.
