Region Wrestling – Sturgis to send 14 wrestlers to state

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper wrestling team dominated at the regionals Saturday, and will send all 14 of their varsity wrestlers on to next week’s state tournament.

The Scoopers crowned 9 champions on the day, including Reese Jacobs at 182. Jacobs is now the all time career wins holder at Sturgis – breaking the old record set by Josh Keszler. After Saturday’s region championship, Jacobs now has 210 wins – with the state tournament yet to go. He is undefeated at 48-0 on the season.

The other Scooper champions were Korbin Bunch (106), Teryn Zebroski (113), Dee Daniels (126), Thayne Elshere (138), Kalvin Ketelsen (145), Preston Ray (170), Aiden Werlinger (195) and Zak Juelfs (220).

Sturgis racked up 294.5 points to best second-place Rapid City Stevens by 38 points in the point standings.  Rapid City Central placed third and Spearfish was fourth.

Stevens crowned four champions on the day.

At the Region 4B Tourney, Custer claimed the team title with 271.5 points. The Wildcats crowned four champions on the day, including Tray Weiss at 113, Riley Scott at 132, Jonathan Lewis at 160 and Ryder Bailey at 182.
The Philip Scotties finished second in team points and crowned five champions. They included Carter Kendrick at 106, Jace Blasius at 138, Gage Ravallette at 145, Blair Blasius at 152 and Burk Blasius at 170.
