Rep. Johnson honors Vietnam Veterans in Sturgis pinning ceremony

STURGIS, S.D. – Five Vietnam veterans received a hero’s salute Monday from South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson.

At the Sturgis Veterans Club, Johnson presented five veterans their commemorative pin and the welcome home they didn’t get fifty years ago. The event was held at the Sturgis Veterans Club.

“The reality is the way we welcomed these veterans home in the 1960’s and 1970’s was terrible, and this is an opportunity for our country to make it right by these men and women,” Johnson said.

The veterans shared their stories with Johnson about how they were treated upon arriving home from their tour of duty. Johnson says he hears similar stories across the state at other pinning ceremonies he’s done.

Johnson also presented one posthumous pin to the family member of a veteran at today’s ceremony.
