PIERRE, SD – South Dakota health officials reported 165 more COVID-19 cases in South Dakota, 127 of which were confirmed, on Friday, March 5. Currently, 2,096 active virus cases are in the state, an increase of 40 since yesterday.
Out of the 113,229 cases reported in South Dakota, 109,237 have recovered while 87 patients are hospitalized due to the virus. This is unchanged since yesterday.
No additional COVID-19 deaths were reported on Friday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,896 virus-related deaths have been reported in South Dakota.
South Dakota health officials are also reporting 3,526 more residents have completed the vaccine series, with a total of 86,562 people in the state now fully vaccinated.
This translates to an estimated 20.02% of South Dakota’s 16 and older population has been fully vaccinated. The state’s COVID-19 dashboard shows about 30% of the state’s adult population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
To date, South Dakota has administered 244,697 vaccines, with 123,179 being Moderna and 121,518 being Pfizer.
