Report of shots fired puts BHSU on temporary lockdown Friday

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Spearfish Police were called to a campus apartment Friday for a report of shots fired.

Police say their 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch Center received a report of noises that sounded like popping or possible gunshots Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to the campus and worked with BHSU staff to determine the origin of the noise.

As a precaution, BHSU Security called for a campus lock down.

Officers and campus security found no evidence of gunshots being fired and as soon as that was confirmed, the lockdown was lifted.

There were no classes being held on campus this week due to spring break, which has been extended through next week due to the Coronavirus.
