Richard “Dick” Auchampach, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, entered eternal peace on April 2, 2025, in the embrace of his family. He was born on June 19, 1949, to Dale and Maurine Auchampach in Brookings, SD.
He was raised in Faulkton, SD. After graduating high school, where he played as a quarterback, Dick attended NSU in Aberdeen until joining the Army in 1970 and serving in Germany. He later attended BHSU. During his time in Spearfish, he enjoyed working at Dave’s Supper Club and playing softball with his rowdy friends. Dick moved to Central City in the early ’80s, where he met and married his loving wife, Karen, and welcomed his stepdaughters, Melanie and Kirstin, into his life. Their daughter, Anna, later completed the family. He retired from Wharf Resources after over 30 years of being lead driller.
Although he may have found it a grave task, we wish Dick was here to write this because he had the gift of gab and was a great storyteller and such a “punny” guy. He was an avid skier, talented athlete (although he never would admit it), golfer, and movie aficionado. He had the confidence to repair anything, was a safety net for his family and friends, and gave the best advice.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deb Jetton; survived by his wife, Karen; daughters Anna Auchampach, Kirstin (Scott) Huff, and Melanie Bond (Don Eisenhauer); grandchildren Noah, Kaitlyn, Hannah, and Elijah; siblings Jill Conelly and Tom (Louise) Auchampach; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. with a meal to follow at the Christian Ministry Center in Lead, SD. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his honor to the charity of your choice.
Dick was a kind-hearted, generous, and compassionate man, and will be dearly missed.
