Robert “Bob” Julius, 92, Sturgis, SD, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the Fort Meade VA Hospital, Fort Meade, SD.
Bob was born to Joe and Elizabeth (Davies) Julius March 31, 1932 in Lead, SD, graduating from Lead High School in 1949. In 1951 he joined the United States Air Force where he served until 1955.
Shortly upon returning to civilian life he married Bernice Wilhelm on January 14, 1956 and to this union five children were born; daughters, Gogie, Tona, and Sherry, and sons, Bob and John. Bob also attended Black Hills Teachers College, graduating in 1960. After graduation he began his career in education, teaching various subjects and working as a Counselor for numerous years. His education continued and in 1970 he earned his Masters Degree from Black Hills State College. During his career he also coached basketball and track. Bob retired from education in 1994.
Being an avid sports fan, Bob broadcast basketball and football games for various local radio stations for 44 years. He also enjoyed ranching, all sporting events, comedy, trips, family events, and was always ready to pull out a magic trick to entertain those around him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Elizabeth Julius, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and son-in-law, Doug Tribby.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bernice “Bea” Julius; son, Bob Julius (Cherry McLeod); daughter, Gogie Enstad (Rod); daughter, Tona Tribby (Denny DiMaria); daughter, Sherry Julius (Doug Fluke); son, John Julius (Margo); grandchildren, Jason (Jami) Tribby, Tyler (Kessa) Tribby, Daniel (Courtney) Tribby, Jeffery (Sarah) Julius, Jessica (Casey) Armstrong, Ellyn (Jared) Julius-West, Robert Julius and David Julius; six great grandchildren; sister, Marlene Bisek and niece, Lori (Craig) Comer.
His grandchildren lovingly knew him as “Paw”.
A Memorial Visitation will be Thursday, January 9, 2025, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Black Hills Funeral Home, Sturgis, SD. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.
