Robert “Bob” Walter Johnson

Robert “Bob” Walter Johnson, 77, of Sturgis, SD, died Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Monument Health Sturgis hospital.

Robert” Bob” W. Johnson born November 30, 1946, to Elwood and Leona (Trigg) Johnson. He grew up at their home west of Vale, S.D. The family moved to Colorado in 1959, after Bob completed high school, he moved back to SD, to help his grandparents. He met his love of life, Janet Knutson, and was married September 1, 1967. Together they had 3 sons, Dean, Scott, and Jeffrey. They lived in Belle Fourche, SD, and moved to Colorado August 1970. Where Bob worked with Hesston and MacDon farm machinery as a territory manager (TM). After both Bob and Janet retired, they moved back to Sturgis, SD, in September of 2020.

Bob loved Ford cars, and enjoyed driving very fast. NHRA (drag racing) was his lifetime joy.

Bob was a proud man, always loved teasing, and making jokes. Loved to see people laugh and have fun.

Survived by his wife: Janet (Knutson) Johnson, Sturgis SD; sons: Dean (Jenny), Colorado Springs, CO, Scott (Gaye), Creedmoor, NC, and Jeffrey (Cynthia), Strasburg, CO; 2 granddaughters, Jessica Johnson (Dylan Sporcich) Eaton CO, and Meagan Harms (Justin), Milliken, CO; 4 step-grandchildren, Chelsey Youell, and Travis Youell, both of Colorado, Dylan McDonald, and Hannah McDonald, both of North Carolina; 2 great- grandchildren: Laiken, and Shyla Sporcich, Eaton, CO.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Leona Johnson, one brother, John, and one sister, Janet, his grandparents (both Johnson and Trigg).

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment to follow at Vale cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
