RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City area fire crews responded to a structure-turned-wildfire yesterday in Rochford.
According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s office, first responders were sent to Melchert Place in Rochford around midnight, where they found a home on fire.
Fire crews began attacking the fire immediately as it was spreading to adjacent forest ground and advancing toward other residences.
At its height, there were some voluntary evacuations, including moving cattle away from the area.
Great Plains Fire Dispatch named the fire the Soloman Fire and said it had burned approximately 4.4 acres.
The home that initially caught fire was a total loss and there were no reports of any other structures being damaged. No injuries were reported.
