SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol is encouraging travelers to avoid Spearfish Canyon Saturday after a rock slide closed both lanes of travel.
The patrol says the slide occurred Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 14A near Savoy in Spearfish Canyon.
The slide has affected both lanes of travel, making the road impassable.
The patrol says the road will be closed until crews are able to remove the debris. It is anticipated the road will re-open the morning of Sunday, July 6th.
The closure will be announced on signs heading into the canyon as well as on SD511.
