Rollover south of Lead sends driver to hospital

LEAD, S.D. – The Lead Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle rollover near the Sugarloaf Trailhead on U.S. Highway 85 Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a truck that had left the roadway and rolled into a creek, with a patient still inside.

EMS crews from Monument Health Northern Hills Ambulance assisted in extricating the patient through the sunroof. The patient was then transported to an ambulance and subsequently airlifted.

A second vehicle was involved in the incident, with passengers sustaining minor injuries.

Lead Units Rescue 4 and Squad 7 responded to the scene. Assisting agencies included Monument Health Northern Hills Ambulance, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Black Hills Life Flight.
