Roughriders Sweep Scoopers in Doubleheader

GILLETTE, WY – The Gillette Roughriders hosted the Sturgis Scoopers on Tuesday evening and took both games, 20-1 in game one and 11-3 in the nightcap.

Gillette exploded for 15 runs on 10 hits in the second inning in game one to put the Scoopers away early. The game was called after three innings due to the mercy rule.

Kobe Craig earned the 20-1 win for the Roughriders, allowing one hit and one run over three innings. Gillette pounded out 15 hits and were led by Riley Schilling, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Yaden Miller took the loss for Sturgis. Bricon Herron got the lone hit for the Scoopers.

The Scoopers hung tough in game two and trailed Gillette 6-2 after the third inning. The Roughriders added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth to earn the 11-3 victory.  

Riley Hawk got the pitching win for Gillette, allowing five hits and three runs over three innings of work. The Roughriders collected 15 hits in the game. Jack Knutson took the loss for Sturgis. The Scoopers finished with seven hits.

The Scoopers (3-6) host Rapid City Central at Strong Field Wednesday at 5pm & 7pm in a doubleheader.
