Rural electric co-ops working to get storm-affected residents back on line

PHILIP, S.D. – Thousands of people are without power in the wake of this weekend’s severe weather that tore through parts of western South Dakota.

West Central Electric says their crews were out this morning, and, as expected, are finding many issues.

The electric co-op says they have approximately 2,700 meters off ranging from Lower Brule to Philip.

Additional crews are being brought in from neighboring co-ops and their goal is to get as much back on as possible, as soon as possible.

Some people have been without power since Saturday, and Sunday’s second round of severe weather made things even worse.

Meanwhile, as of Monday morning, the South Dakota Rural Electric outage map is reporting 1661 member-consumers out of power in Haakon, Jackson, Lyman, Jones, Mellette Stanley and Tripp Counties. By County:

Haakon: 614

Jackson: 477

Lyman: 345

Jones: 225

Mellette: 10

Tripp: 1

Stanley: 16
