RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Salvation Army of the Black Hills is looking for volunteers to ring its red kettle bells this holiday season.
All donations to the Salvation Army go toward feeding families this winter and also providing holiday meals.
In the ‘Ring for Bling’ event this year, every person who signs up to ring the bells in two-hour shifts, will have the chance to win a diamond necklace from Riddle’s Jewelry in Rapid City.
This is the Salvation Army’s largest donation campaign of the year, and the money made is used to sustain what they give in community support services year round.
“It’s a great, great family activity and it’s something that the whole family can do together,” said Major Jerry O’Neil, Black Hills Area Coordinator. “It’s also an opportunity for businesses and associations to recruit employees to ‘ring the bell’ as part of their company volunteer efforts.”
He added, “And of course, we are very grateful to all the locations who allow us to place kettles and bell ringers at their locations.”
Rapid City Realtor Tom Rau rang the bell last year, going on to win the ‘Ring for Bling,’ from Riddle’s Jewelry. Rau says it’s one of the ways the Black Hills Association of Realtors gives back to the community during the holidays.
“Our association has been involved for the past 11 years in what we call ‘Realtor Ring Day’ which happens across the state of South Dakota. It’s for a great cause,” Rau said.
