Sandy Bob Forbes new head rodeo coach for Casper College T-Birds

CASPER, Wyo. – For the first time in seven years, there will be a new rodeo coach heading the Casper College T-Birds, but you could say this isn’t his first rodeo with the team.

Sandy Bob Forbes will be taking over the head coach role at Casper College for their rodeo team after being an assistant coach for the team since 2021, helping athletes with rough stock events.

Coach Forbes expressed his excitement getting the job saying, ”It’s awesome, it’s awesome, and when I was a kid here coming to school for Tom Parker, never in a million years would I though that this would have been an opportunity for me. And to be able to do that for these kids now… It’s a lot of pressure I’m not gonna lie, I want to do them a great job.”

That wasn’t his only stint with the team, as back in 1999 he himself was a saddle bronc rider for the T-Bird’s, qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo in 2001. After graduating, Forbes continued his rodeo career as he competed with the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association for saddle bronc riding.

Coach Forbes intends to keep the strong winning culture at Casper College, as he said, ”Jhett (Johnson) was so successful of his own career, and then he just rolled that right off into Casper to start winning. But it’s a great sport in that aspect cause we have a job to do and the winning will always take care of itself. All we can do is practice hard, keep it simple, have a little fun.”

Coach Forbes is already on his way to keeping the culture strong, as the T-Birds placed second at the Chadron State College Rodeo this past weekend, and they’ll be back in action on the 22nd at the Central Wyoming College Rodeo.
