PIERRE, S.D. – The Spearfish Sasquatch trailed by as many as five, but came back to top the Oahe Zap 7 – 5on Thursday.
The Zap got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Vince Polizzi doubled, scoring three runs, and Mason Lang singled, scoring one run.
Spearfish captured the lead, 7-5, in the top of the ninth when Matthew Gonzalez singled, scoring one run, Patrick Rakes singled, scoring two runs, and Nolan Ackerman grounded out, scoring one run.
Cade Bleeker began the game for Spearfish. The righty surrendered six hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Angel Escobar led things off on the bump for the Zap. They gave up zero hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Elijah Bobo, Aidan Torpey, and Cole Kreber each threw shutout innings for Spearfish in relief.
Micah Wallette, Javier Marcial, Rakes, Gonzalez, Daniel Cook, and Ackerman each collected one hit for the Sasquatch.
Spearfish and Oahe play their next game on Friday evening.
