Sasquatch Tie Series With Pioneers

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Sasquatch topped the best team in the Clark Division, breaking Western Nebraska’s 10-game win streak. The Series is now tied 1-1.

It was a battle of the best teams in the Clark Division and had no signs of being a boring game. Western Nebraska started the game off with a home-run, coming from Jack Wagner to put the Pioneers in front, 1-0. The Sasquatch was quick to respond in the third inning, with Theo Hardy scoring on a past ball to tie the game. Not long after, Hardy and Gage Ninness would extend the Sasquatch lead 3-1 coming from a pair of RBIs.

The Pioneers would not be discouraged, scoring three runs to take the lead, 4-3. Eric Smelko and Wagner were outstanding for the Pioneers. Smelko had a three-hit, one-RBI night, while Wagner had no trouble finding two hits and two RBIs.

For the Sasquatch, it would Jacob Sanchez changing the momentum of the game, hitting a home run, and driving in two runs to take back the lead, 5-4. Following Sanchez, McHenry would hit an RBI double to stretch the lead, 6-4. The Pioneers would bring in four more runs throughout the game. It was not enough as the Sasquatch would score two more runs to end the game with a score of 8-6.

Nico Saldias would get the start, pitching in five innings and chalking up three strikeouts. But it would be Zach Kriethe that picks up the win, pitching in three innings, and striking out 6 batters, and sitting down the last batter with a looking K.

With the series tied, The Sasquatch looks to pull closer to the number one spot in the Clark Division. The final game of this series is set for Sunday, June 27th at 4:30 p.m. in the Black Hills Energy Stadium.
