Saturday COVID-19 Update – 131 new cases in eastern South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. – An additional 131 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported on Saturday, and the Department of Health says of those cases, 119 of them were in Minnehaha County. The state’s cumulative total is now 1,542.

South Dakota’s most populous county remains the hot spot in the state – particularly the Smithfield Food Plant, which remains closed due to the virus.

All reported cases today were in eastern South Dakota. The Black Hills area saw their cases remain the same. Pennington County remains the only county with active cases at 3.

Pennington County reported an additional 15 negative tests today, with Lawrence and Meade County each reporting one additional negative test.

According to the state department of health, recoveries increased by 95, for a total of 552. There are 5 new hospitalizations reported in the state, for a total of 68. 467 new negative tests have been preformed, bringing the total negative tests to 10,118.
