Saturday night storms hit Philip area hard

PHILIP, S.D. – There’s talk of a possible tornado in the Philip area as Saturday night storms led to a trail of damage.

Residents in the area are reporting to KBHB that the storm came through around 8:15.

West of town, the Crowsers reported two downed strees, one of them landing on top of a trailer. Neighbors, D.J. and Amber Rush, lost 2 sheds to the storm and had a hot tub cover end up going through one of their picture windows.

The wind also blew part of a windbreak down, allowing 20 heads of cows to escape from one ranch.

Across the north fork of the Bad River, residents are reporting a 5th wheel trailer was flipped over onto its side and a big tree came donw on the come of Charles Eckstrum.

In downtown Philip, the Gas Stop lost part of their roof and the Corner Pantry lost part of their awning over the gas pumps.

There is a lot of tree damage with reports of down branches all around town.The town’s elevator was also damaged.

The storm also caused power outages in the Philip area.

National Weather Service reports indicate the storm produced wind gusts over 70 mph in the Philip area. Similar wind gusts were reported in the Milesville area where damage is reported where Dusti Berry reported to KBHB a large tree that came down on the family’s pickup truck.

Janice Rae Crowser of the Philip area also provided a lot of these reports to KBHB. She is not aware of any major injuries due to the storm.
