Scams on the rise across the country

PIERRE, SD – As the pandemic spread across the country, scams tagged along.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says they started getting reports almost as soon as the financial rescue package was passed by Congress. “Obviously a lot of them originate from out of state. We’ve been trying to give alerts.”

Ravnsborg says people should just slow down and be skeptical about the so called “good deals” that come their way. “We ask that you take a look at it.  Take that extra step, call my consumer protection office and check it out.”

Ravnsborg says they also saw a run on COVID-19 test kits. “Initially, when the COVID broke out, there was some talk of home testing kits. Nothing was on the market at that time. Double check, go to the Better Business Bureau, contact our office and check it out before you spend your hard-earned money on a scam.”

Ravnsborg says they are working with a few people trying to get their money back.
