Scooper Baseball falls to Pierre Tuesday

PIERRE, SD -Cooper Terwilliger drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Pierre Governors past the Sturgis Scoopers 13-1 in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Hyde Baseball Stadium. The Govs took game two, 14-1. Both games ended in five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. 

In game one, Terwilliger hit a home run to center field in the third inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fourth, scoring two more. The Governors scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

Brennan McCullough earned the win for Pierre. The pitcher gave up one hit and one run over five innings, striking out one. Brand Matthews took the loss for Sturgis. The starter went two innings, giving up five runs on four hits, striking out two.

Pierre collected 10 hits and stole five bases in game one.

Brody Royer went 1-for-2 at the plate to get the lone hit for the Scoopers.

In game two, the Governors scored seven runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow the game wide open on the way to a 14-1 five inning victory.

Jonathan Neuharth earned the win for Pierre, giving up one hit and no runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Carter Williams took the loss for Sturgis, throwing three and one-third innings, allowing 11 runs on six hits and walking four.

Pierre pounded out seven hits in game two and were led again by Terwilliger, who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. 

Royer, Bridge Battin, and Carson Williams each collected one hit for the Scoopers.

Sturgis falls to 6-15 on the season and take on Douglas at McKeague Field on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 7pm.
