SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers wrapped up their east side swing on Saturday, dropping game one to Sioux Falls Lincoln, 8-0, and the second game to Sioux Falls Roosevelt, 7-3. Â
Sturgis fell behind early in game one as Lincoln put up three runs in the bottom of the first. Â The Patriots added a run in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to secure the 8-0 win. Lincoln banged out 10 hits in the game.
Sawyer Mindt earned the win for Lincoln. The righthander allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four.
Beau Peters took the loss for Sturgis. The pitcher went four innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one. Brand Matthew threw two innings in relief.
Owen Cass and Hunter Janzen each collected one hit for Sturgis.
In the second matchup, Scooper errors were the difference as Sioux Falls Roosevelt plated four runs in the bottom of the third, cruising to a 7-3 win.
Sturgis committed three errors in the game, two on plays by the Scooper outfielders in the third inning, which put Roughriders runners on base and allowing them to score.
Lawson Hensley earned the victory on the mound for Roosevelt. The pitcher surrendered three runs on five hits over four innings, striking out three. Kaleb Schroeder and Jaxon DeHaan entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Owen Cass took the loss for the Scoopers. The righty surrendered five runs on two hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
Reece Jacobs led Sturgis with two hits in three at bats.
The Scoopers won one game and lost three on the road trip, dropping them to 8-7 on the season. Â Sturgis is in action next on Thursday as they host Douglas in a doubleheader at Strong Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
