STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper Baseball team opened the season Thursday with an 11-1 loss to Pierre.
The Governors took 2-0 lead in the first inning on a triple R.B.I. by Jett Zabel.
Pierre would add 5 runs in the third inning as a double by Zabel scored George Stalley and a single by Ridge Leimbach scored Zabel. Another single by Grayson Hunsley scored two more runs in the inning.
Pierre put the game away in the seventh inning, scoring an additional four runs.
Sturgis’ lone run came in the bottom of the seventh inning as a single by Dylan Christensen brought home Brady Royer.
