YANKTON, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers struggled to get their offense going on Saturday and committed six errors defensively, dropping a first round playoff game to the Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers, 10-0 in six innings.
Noah Willis went the distance for Jefferson on the mound, allowing only four hits and no runs over six innings, striking out three.
Kain Peters started for the Scoopers, surrendering eight runs on ten hits over five and a third innings. Â Peters fanned ten Cavaliers but the Sturgis defense made too many mistakes, allowing Sioux Falls Jefferson to capitalize on those errors to score runs. Connor Cruickshank threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
Jefferson had 12 hits in the game and were led by Keegan Johnston, Carson Hughes, Logan Riddle, Ryan Rysavy, and Cohen Henry with two hits each.
Cruickshank, Dylan Christenson, Evan Stroud, and Kain Peters each managed one hit to lead Sturgis.
The Scoopers wrap up their season with 11 wins and eight losses.
Sioux Falls Jefferson played Yankton in the Region 2 championship on Saturday evening, defeating the Bucks 3-0 to punch their ticket to the state baseball tournament. Â Pierre, Brandon Valley and Harrisburg join Jefferson at state, which will be held May 27 in Sioux Falls.
