RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scooper baseball squad scored early and often in a doubleheader with the Douglas Patriots, blowing them out 21-1 in game one and 21-3 in game two. Both games were called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Beau Peters got the win for Sturgis in game one, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing three hits while striking out five. Hunter Janzen threw 1 2/3 innings in relief out of the bullpen. Allijah Ballard took the loss for Douglas, allowing ten hits and ten runs over three innings, striking out two.
Sturgis had 15 hits, led by Kelton Olson with three hits in three at bats. David Mraz went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Douglas.
Sturgis led 11-1 after four innings in game two, before exploding for 10 runs in the top of the fifth on their way to a 21-3 victory.
Ridge Inhofer got the win for Sturgis, lasting three innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out seven. Conner Cruickshank threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Lucas Giersburg took the loss for Douglas. The pitcher gave up 15 runs on 12 hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out four.
The Scoopers racked up 16 hits in game two. Cruickshank, Dustin Alan and Owen Cass each collected three hits to lead Sturgis. The Scoopers didn’t commit a single error in the field and had ten stolen bases in game two.
Remi Kasuske went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Douglas.Â
The Scoopers improve to 7-10 on the season and are in action next on Tuesday as they travel to Pierre for a doubleheader.Â
