STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper boys basketball team wrapped up a tough season Thursday night with a 78-31 loss to Rapid City Stevens.
The young squad wrapped up the year with a 3-17 record, and out of the postseason SoDak 16 Tournament.
Sturgis Coach Derris Buus had a nice sendoff for his senior Thor Sundstrom, who broke an ankle earlier in the season. Sundstrom suited up and went out on the floor for the opening tip. After the opening tip, Sturgis called a timeout and allowed Sundstrom to head back to the bench — where he got a standing ovation from the Scooper crowd.
The other Scooper senior, R.J. Andrewjeski, finished the night with 3 points.
Stevens led the whole way, jumping out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter, and increasing their lead to 41-12 at halftime.
Stevens was led by Jaeden Haefs with 16 points.
Sturgis was led by Jake Vliem with 12 points. Korbin Jensen came off the bench late in the fourth quarter and drained two 3-pointers and a 2 point field goal to finish with 8 points.
