STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper boys basketball team will miss the SoDak 16 this year after falling to the Douglas Patriots 63-56 Tuesday night.
It was a close game throughout, with Sturgis taking a 6-point lead late in the third quarter. There lead didn’t last long as Darrell Knight scored 7 straight points to give Douglas a lead they would not relinquish.
Knight would lead all scorers with 27 points with Kyle Shields adding 15.
Sturgis got a solid night from Tyan Buus, scoring 21 points off six 3-pointers.
Sturgis Coach Derris Buus says the “kids did a good job and we wanted to get the ‘w’, but we had a rough ending to the 3rd quarter that we couldn’t bounce back from.”
The loss will end the Scoopers hopes for a SoDak 16 this year. They will wrap up their season against Rapid City Stevens on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the Sturgis Scooper girls came back from a double-digit deficit to beat Spearfish 53-49.
Sturgis got 21 points from Kaylee Whatley and 10 from Reese Ludwick.
The Scooper girls wrap up the regular season Friday night against Rapid City Stevens.
