Scooper boys win thriller over Spearfish; Girls fall

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis needed double overtime, a three pointer by Ryder Ladner and a steal by Remington Sankey to seal a one point win over Spearfish Friday night.

The 62-61 win came in front of a home crowd celebrating the induction of the newest members of the Scooper Hall of Fame.

Sturgis battled back after trailing by four at halftime, led by Marcus Myrick, who scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half.

The two teams were neck and neck in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, and couldn’t break at 50-50 tie that sent them into overtime.

After both teams put 7 on the board in the first overtime, they took a 50-50 game into a second overtime period.

Sturgis got a big three point shot by Ryder Ladner and a steal by Remington Sankey to help seal the deal.

Spearfish got off a long, off-balance three at the buzzer, but it was off the mark, and the Scoopers celebrated a hard fought win over their rivals.

The Scooper girls, in the meantime, were not so lucky, as they dropped a 50-45 game to the Lady Spartans.

The Scoopers led Spearfish 21-14 at the half, but the Spartans battled back in the second half, outscoring Sturgis 14-8 in the third and 22-16 in the fourth.

Stella Marcus was Stellar, as she led all scorers with 21 points for Spearfish.

Coming back from an injury, it was a breakout game for Kaylee Whatley, as she led Sturgis with 19 points.
