Scooper girls softball take third place at state tournament

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper girls softball team brought home third place from the State B Tournament held over the weekend.

The girls opened the tournament with a 7-2 win over Vermillion.

The Scoopers then earned a game with defending state champion West Central, where they lost 7-3.

The Scoopers then beat Lennox 9-8, defeated Tea 8-2 and lost to Madison 2-0. The Scoopers finish the tournament 3-2.

Coach Dan Roe says Ellie Buckmaster, Jadyn Hamann and Zabree Bush all had two home runs and Shelby Roberts had one as well.

“All 3 of our pitchers, Kaitlyn Roberts, Hamann and Brooke Wolf did a great job with Kaitlyn getting two wins and Jadyn 1.”

Coach Roe also says “defensively, we had a great tournament, lead by Bush and Roberts. They both led this team defensively all season long.”

The Scoopers finish the season with 18 wins and 7 losses. They will graduate 9 seniors this year, but Roe says they have a “wonderful underclassmen to lead this team next year.”
