STURGIS, S.D. – Both Sturgis Scooper girls and boys hosted Mitchell in Friday night action at Woodle Field.
In the girls game, Mitchell rolled to a 5-0 win.
The Kernels scored first at the 13:22 mark in the first half as Kenzi Kayl knocked in the goal.
Mitchell would score again at the 11:56 mark on a header goal that came off a Kernel throw in to make it 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Mitchell got a present on a mistake by the Scoopers as goaltender Isabella Larson knocked in a goal for the Kernels off a corner kick.
Leading 3-0, Mitchell put the game away on a goal by Mia Mullenmeister to make it 4-0.
Mitchell added a fifth goal with 13:32 remaining.
Sturgis struggled offensively, with their best shot on goal coming halfway through the second half. That goal, attempted by Chaylen Murphy was blocked by the Kernel goaltender.
In the boys game, the Scoopers remained undefeated on the young season with a 3-1 win over Mitchell.
Talan Kullbom quickly got Sturgis on the board as he sailed a ball past the Kernel goalkeeper to make it 1-0 barely a minute into the game.
Sturgis would score again with just over 8:00 minutes left in the first half as Ty Ferguson shot one over the head of the Mitchell goalie Logan Oelerking.
Sturgis added their final goal in the second half on a goal by Luke Hosman.
Mitchell’s only score came at the 26 minute mark of the second half as Sam Mullenmeister snuck one past Sturgis goalie Christian Lemke.
The Sturgis boys are now 2-0 and the girls are 0-1.
