Scooper Soccer Players doing some volunteer house building Wednesday

STURGIS, S.D. – Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity and approximately 30 youth soccer players from the Sturgis area worked Wednesday on building homes for local families.

The Scooper Soccer players attend Sturgis Brown High School, Sturgis Williams Middle School and Stagebarn Middle School and range in age from 12-18 years.

The group volunteered in two sessions – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The two homes are located on a lot at the corner of Sherman and Nellie Streets in Sturgis.

Black Hills Habitat for Humanity says the volunteers help play a vital role in helping them finish the homes for partner families in Sturgis.

The soccer players worked on initial grading and prepping the lots for drainage and landscaping.

Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity welcomes youth volunteer groups from across the Black Hills. It has been hosting summer Youth Works groups for 9 years. Over 300 youth and supervisors have participated with Black Hills Area Habitat logging in over 6,000 volunteer hours. This unique volunteer opportunity offers youth the opportunity to develop teamwork and leadership skills while providing valuable services to their communities.
