STURGIS, SD – The Sturgis Scooper girls soccer team lost the first game of a twin bill with the Rapid City Central Cobblers, 7-0, dropping them to 2-5 on the season.
Kiley Mellum, Breanna Reagan, Jada Backes and Emma Hargens scored goals for Central in the first half. Kaysie Dahl, Reagan and Avery Young added goals in the second half to shutout the Scoopers. Â The Cobblers improved to 7-0-1 on the year.
In the boys match, Rapid City Central got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Hudson Pitts midway through first half. Â The match was physical early on, with Scooper Carsen Wolter and Cobbler Christian Green earning yellow cards for hard fouls in the first half.
The Scooper boys were down 1-0 late in the second half and knotted up the match with an equalizer by Talan Kulbom with 9:21 left. The game with Rapid City Central ended in a 1-1 draw. The Sturgis boys improve to 4-1-1 on the year and Central is now 2-3-2.Â
The Scoopers host Rapid City Stevens on Saturday at Woodle Field. The girls kickoff is scheduled for 9am. Â
