STURGIS, SD – The Sturgis Scooper Volleyball team earned a hard-fought four set victory over perennial powerhouse Belle Fourche on Tuesday night at West Gym.
Sturgis lost the first set to the Lady Broncs, 25-21 and then won four sets in a row, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 to get the win.Â
Sophomore outside hitter Danica Dschaak had 17 kills, one ace and one block to lead Sturgis (1-0). Setter Makenna Lebeau collected 27 assists and one kill for the Scoopers. Olivia Vliem had 10 kills, two blocks and an ace for Sturgis.Â
Regan Hatling led Belle Fourche with eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Mya Nowowiejski had five kills and five aces for the Lady Broncs (0-1).Â
The Scooper girls have suffered through back-to-back five win seasons in 2022 and 2023 and have lost the opening match to Belle Fourche going back to at least 2021.
The Sturgis volleyball squad travels to Huron this weekend for a tournament and will face Mitchell, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Huron, Brandon Valley and Northwestern. Â
