Scooper Wrestling put on one year probation

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper Wrestling program will serve one year of probation following a ruling by the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

Executive  Director Dan Swartos says the probation is due to a violation that pertains to students at practice who were not supposed to be there.

He says “to be at practice, your have to be an enrolled member of the school, or you have to be a rostered coach.”

The penalty also includes a $300 dollar fine and a pledge from Sturgis Brown that indicates steps will be taken to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Sturgis Scooper Wrestling Coach Mike Abell will also be ineligible for the first two matches of the 2024-25 season.

Sturgis Brown Athletic Director Mike Schultz confirmed to the Black Hills Pioneer the violation and probation.
