Scoopers Crush Broncs With Offensive Outburst

BELLE FOURCHE, SD – The Sturgis Scooper football team piled up almost 500 yards of total offense in a 47-14 win over the Belle Fourche Broncs at Lou Graslie Field.

The Scoopers scored early and often against the Broncs.  Aiden Hedderman found Dalyn Dschaak with a 7-yd touchdown strike in the first quarter to start the scoring onslaught for Sturgis.  The Scoopers scored three more times in the first half to take a 26-0 lead at halftime.  Sturgis rolled up 252 yards of total offense in the first half, 151 on the ground and 101 through the air.

Owen Udager trotted into the end zone from 17 yards out on the first offensive series of the second half for Sturgis to give the Scoopers a 33-0 lead.  The Broncs finally got on the scoreboard with 4:59 left in the third quarter when Hedderman fumbled in the endzone, and Cody Foos recovered the ball for a Belle Fourche touchdown.  Sturgis led 33-7 with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

Sturgis put together an 11-play, 80-yard drive on their next series to take a 40-7 lead when Hedderman found Jadon Blair with a 30-yard pass for a Scooper touchdown.  

Belle Fourche tacked on a score midway through the fourth quarter when Owyn Schreder ran in a score from three yards out.  The Scoopers put in their reserves in the fourth and sophomore Jaxon Cano ran the ball in for a six-yard Sturgis touchdown to end the scoring with 1:27 left.  

Sturgis finished the game with 492 yards of total offense.  The Scoopers had 41 carries for 271 yards and four scores on the ground.  Aiden Hedderman and Carter Williams combined for 221 yards passing, completing 14 passes on 22 attempts and two touchdowns.  Sturgis had two turnovers, an interception and a fumble and had four penalties for 40 yards.  The Scoopers improved to 4-3 on the season.

Belle Fourche had 146 yards of total offense, 67 yards rushing and 79 yards passing.  The Broncs had a fumble and four penalites for 30 yards.  Belle Fourche falls to 1-6 on the year.

The Scoopers travel to Douglas next Friday to take on the Patriots at Dave Brodie Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
