Scoopers Drop Two Games to Cobblers

RAPID CITY, SD – The Rapid City Central Cobblers swept the Scooper boys and girls at Naasz Gym on Thursday night.

The Cobbler girls downed Sturgis 55-39 and the Central boys beat the Scoopers 47-38.

The Cobblers girls shot the ball well in the first half, making 13 of 27 shots to lead 28-15 at the break. Central outscored Sturgis 13-6 in the third quarter to extend their lead, enroute to a 55-39 win.

Sadie Glade led Central (6-1) with 15 points. Keeley Heikes drained three three-pointers and scored 11 for the Scoopers (2-8).

The boys game was a battle from start to finish as Central led 9-4 after one and 18-17 at the half. The Scoopers jumped out to five point lead early in the third quarter and held Central scoreless before the Cobblers went on an 11-0 run to lead 29-23.  

Sturgis scrapped back into the game early in the fourth and trailed by just one, but Cobbler post player Cooper Totten hit two timely shots and made three of four free throws down the stretch to secure the Central win, 47-38.

Wyatt Anderson led Rapid City Central (2-5) with 17 points.  Totten added 13 and four rebounds.  Owen Cass, Dysen Peterson and Jake Vliem all scored seven for Sturgis (1-9).

The Scooper girls travel to Mitchell on Friday, Jan. 21. The Sturgis boys are in action next on Tuesday as they travel to Douglas to take on the Patriots.
