Scoopers Lose Heartbreaker to Harrisburg

MITCHELL, SD —  The Sturgis Scooper baseball team traveled to Cadwell Park in Mitchell on Saturday to take on the Harrisburg Tigers in the first round of the Class A high school playoffs in Region 4, and nearly pulled off an upset.

The #12 seeded Scoopers led the #5 Tigers 3-0 after two innings but gave up three runs late in the game to fall to Harrisburg, 4-3.

Maddox Plack pitched Harrisburg to victory. The fireballer allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five.

Kain Peters took the loss for Sturgis. The righthander surrendered four runs and seven hits over six innings, striking out four.  Peters, Adam Flohr, Kaden Olson, Evan Stroud, Dustin Alan, and Ridge Inhofer each collected one hit for the Scoopers, who end their high school campaign with 12 wins and 14 losses. 

Jack Sutton went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Harrisburg, who advanced to play #4 Mitchell in the Region 4 championship game but lost to the Kernels, 6-2.
