Scoopers Ride Hot Bats to Win Over RCC

RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scooper baseball team pounded out eight hits and used error-free defense to defeat the Rapid City Central Cobblers 9-4 on Saturday at McKeague Field.

Sturgis plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning after Cobbler pitcher Steven Solano walked three Scoopers, loading the bases. Carter Williams then singled, scoring Brody Royer and Jace Thurman. Jeren Andrzejewski cracked a single, scoring pinch runner Bridger Massa-Battin and Williams moved to third, then scored on a groundout by Carson Williams.

The Scoopers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Devin Ross singled, scoring one run, Brody Royer drew a walk, scoring one run, and Battin singled, scoring two runs.

The Cobblers scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning but couldn’t generate enough offense to catch the Scoopers, losing 9-4 on their home field.

Royer earned the win for Sturgis, surrendering two hits and one run over two and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Andrzejewski collected the save. Carter Williams led the Scoopers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. The Sturgis defense was stellar, committing no errors.

Rapid City Central had nine hits in the game. Ben Farnsworth went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Cobblers. Solano took the pitching loss for Central.

Next up for Sturgis is a game at McKeague Field on Sunday, as they take on the Douglas Patriots. First pitch is slated for 4pm.
