STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper boys and girls basketball teams ran away with two wins at West Gymnasium on Thursday night.
In the first matchup of the afternoon, the Scooper girls led 19-11 after one quarter and cruised to a 61-31 victory over Lead-Deadwood.
Kaylee Whatley had an outstanding game for Sturgis (2-4), scoring 17 points and securing 14 boards. Scooper post player Reece Ludwick added 11 points. Rachel Janssen scored 13 and had 10 rebounds for the Golddiggers (0-6).Â
The Scoopers dominated the boys game, jumping out to a 31-10 lead at the half. Sturgis held the Golddiggers to just four second half points and beat Lead-Deadwood 64-14 to earn their first win of the season.
The Scoopers (1-5) had balanced scoring and were led by Dysen Petersen with 12 points, with Ty Buus and Jake Vliem adding 11 each. Vliem also snared nine rebounds. Â Rocke Rainey led the Golddiggers (1-5) with eight points and five boards.Â
Sturgis is in action next Tuesday, Jan. 4, as they host the Custer Wildcats at West Gym.Â
