Scott sets scoring record as BHSU falls to Fort Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. – Black Hills State men’s basketball used a strong second half to nearly offset an impressive start by No. 10/12 Fort Lewis, as they fell 88-78 Monday night.

The Yellow Jackets (22-2, 16-2 RMAC) held the Skyhawks to just 32.1 percent from the field in the second half while themselves shooting at a 52.6 percent clip, after allowing a 69.7 percent effort by FLC in the first half.

Joel Scott set the all-time BHSU scoring record Monday night with a layup for his 16th point of the game, before finishing with 26 points, 11 rebounds, a block and a steal for his 11th double-double of the season.

Adam Moussa scored 19 to go with six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Sindou Cisse also had a well-rounded night after missing a pair of games due to injury, tallying six points, seven rebounds and five assists in his return.

Caelin Hearne went 5-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from deep to finish with 12 points.

DURANGO, Colo. – Black Hills State held their makeup game against Fort Lewis on Monday night, defeating the Skyhawks 76-61 thanks to 64 total points in the first three-quarters of the game.

The Yellow Jackets (18-6, 13-5 RMAC) held their highest shooting percentages in recent memory as they finished 25-of-53 (47.2 percent) from the floor, 8-of-22 (36.4 percent) from beyond the arc, and 18-of-24 at the free throw line. While stats between the two squads were neck-and-neck, Fort Lewis held 22 turnovers and only seven steals while BHSU only had 14 giveaways and a dozen steals. BHSU also held 30-points from the bench and 30 in the paint while FLC only had 21 and 16, respectively.

Danica Kocer led the Yellow Jacket attack against the Skyhawks as she dropped 19 points in her 24 minutes on the floor: she was a 7-of-11 shooter including a 75 percent look from deep, also knocking down 2-of-3 free throws. She also hit a pair of assists and a steal on the night.

Haylee Weathersby was the next highest on the Yellow Jacket scores as the sophomore tallied 15 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Weathersby was 5-of-9 from the floor and made 5-of-6 from the charity stripe while nabbing four rebounds and four assists.
