PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reports an additional 12 cases of COVID-19 in its latest report out today – bringing the state total to 58.
Two of those cases are in Lawrence County and two new cases were reported in Pennington County.
We know one of the two Lawrence County cases is a vendor with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. The Department sent out a release overnight about the case, but it also said no correctional officers or inmates had tested positive.
The additional cases in Lawrence and Pennington, however, led to them being listed in the minimal instance of community spread. That means there is at least a single case of community-acquired COVID-19 in a county.
Meade County was still listed at one case – believed to be the Monument Health caregiver who tested positive after traveling within the United States.
The state also reports they catching up with the testing – and is more than likely the reason for the big jump in cases overnight. As of today, there are only 20 tests pending.
Of all the tests done so far, 2,387 have come back negative and 21 people have no fully recovered from the virus.
Minnehaha and Beadle County have the most cases with 18 and 16 respectively.
