PIERRE, SD – The next round of economic stimulus is not the only important piece of federal spending hung up in Washington.
South Dakota interim Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt told the Transportation Commission this week that they are waiting on the states federal highway funding. “Congress did pass a continuing resolution to at least provide funding up to December 11. That is coming up here in a couple weeks. We are very hopeful that Congress will enact at least another short-term measure to continute to provide funding for the states and the government.”
Jundt says a full federal budget out to next October would be the best situation. “Our hope is that they would pass the entire remaining fiscal year, but I would say that’s less of thing that will happen versus just a continuing resolution. As you know, we build with federal funds an we need to understand what were going to end up with for the remaining year.”
The House and Senate are due back in Washington next week to continue the lame duck session.
