SD Women in Agriculture celebrates 25 years

DEADWOOD, S.D. –  According to USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Ag Census data, 31% of producers in South Dakota are female. South Dakota Women in Agriculture is dedicated to supporting and advocating for women passionate about agriculture in rural America. .

As the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary, Chairwoman Deb Dobson and the South Dakota Women in Agriculture board invite all interested participants to join the silver jubilee conference. This year’s conference will take place on October 10-11 at the Lodge at Deadwood. The program will feature diverse and inspiring sessions aimed at empowering women in agriculture. It focuses on not only agricultural topics, but also on providing networking opportunities and personal development.

Along with a full slate of speakers and presentations, 2024’s  ‘Woman of the Year’ will be announced as will the ‘Young Gun’ recipient (for women under 25).

Registration for the event is open and costs $125. To register or learn more about the conference, visit www.southdakotawomeninag.com. Any attendee under 25 may apply for our scholarship to assist with registration and room expenditures.

In 2014, Ann Mackaben and a core group of women formalized the organization by establishing an educational non-profit. This non-profit now works on various agriculture-related projects in schools, youth programs, and within the broader community. The group also continues to host the annual conference that brings together women involved in agriculture to learn, connect, and share experiences.

Women passionate about agriculture are encouraged to join the event to gain knowledge, share ideas, and advocate for the future of rural America.
