Search for missing man from Blunt suspended, Sheriff’s Office still asking public for information

PIERRE, S.D. – The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office has suspended the daily active search for a missing Blunt man.

Sheriff Patrick Callahan said searchers have been unable to locate 39-year-old Curtis James who was reported missing from his home in Blunt the morning of Friday, March 7, 2025.

He said deputies, first responders and volunteers conducted six days of active search efforts which included ground, air, K9 and water missions in and around the community of Blunt. Authorities do not believe there is any danger to the public.

James’ cell phone and other personal effects were found inside the home Friday and there was “no sign of any wrongdoing.” James is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and of a medium build.

Investigators continue to search for information concerning the where-a-bouts of James. Anyone with information is asked to immediately contact the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office at 605-773-7410 or any local law enforcement agency.
