VALE, S.D. — Authorities in Butte County are searching for a 67-year-old man who was reported missing Monday morning.
Glen Shay is from Vale, which is approximately 30 miles east of Belle Fourche and eight miles south of Newell.
He was last seen at about 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. According to family members, he was headed north of Vale on foot to go fishing in the Belle Fourche River.
Shay is believed to be wearing a black leather coat with cut-off sleeves, a red shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots. Family members say he should also have been carrying two fishing poles, a tackle box, and a folding chair.
Chief Deputy of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Tristan Clements, says Shay suffered a brain injury several years ago and functions at a childlike level.
The Butte County Sheriff’s Department, Vale Volunteer Fire Department, Nisland Fire Department, Belle Fourche Volunteer Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management rangers are all involved in the search.
