Severe weather brings tornadoes, heavy rain to parts of area

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Unsettled weather led to a Tornado Watch and some severe weather around the area yesterday.

At least one tornado was sighted on the ground north of Faith and straight line winds brought down some trees in Custer County. Weather officials also believe a tornado is responsible for tree damage north of Pringle. In Spearfish Canyon near Cheyenne Crossing, a downed tree fell onto some power lines.

Pea sized hail and over an inch of rain fell in the Johnson Siding area while one-inch hail was reported close to downtown Rapid City.

Some very beneficial rains were also reported.

1.48 inches of rain was reported near Piedmont, an inch was reported near Whitewood, and an inch of rain was also reported in downtown Rapid City.
